Why should a dog walk not simply become a ball-throwing session?

In short
Dogs need time to engage in natural 'dog stuff' during walks rather than constant ball throwing, and walks should be enriching for both dog and owner beyond just ball play, since a dog returning eagerly for more ball throws doesn't necessarily mean that activity is appropriate.
The fuller picture
No.2 it should be a dog walk, not a ball throwing session, dogs need time to do dog stuff, sometimes it's nice to sit back and smell the rose's, read the doggy Facebook post. Your walks should be more entertaining and enriching for both of you than just a ball. Strangely, people and dogs do seem to share a connection with round bouncy objects, just because your dog will come back for more, it doesn't mean that it is appropriate.
